Chutneys are famous In Indian kitchen, you can taste different kinds of chutneys that glorify different dishes. Whether it is Pakora, Samosa, Dosa, or anything else, you will feel something is missing if there is no chutney with that. Chutneys are usually made with herbs, vegetables, and spices. Today, we are going to discuss the most popular chutneys from India and their simple recipes.

1. Coconut Chutney

If you love south Indian dishes, you must be familiar with this chutney. It is usually served with Idli, Dosa, Pongal, onion pakora, etc.

Ingredients needed for this

You will need freshly grated coconut, green chilies, ginger, China’s dal, mustard seeds, urad dal, cumin seeds, dried chilly, curry leaves, asafoetida, and salt.

Recipe

To make coconut chutney, have some freshly grated coconut (2 cups), and add chopped green chilies (2 tsp), grated ginger ( 3 inches), roasted chana dal ( 3tsp), and salt (as per taste) with it. Add 7-8 tsp water and grind it until it comes with a smooth texture. After that, heat 4 tsp oil in a pan and add 2 tsp mustard seeds. Stir the seeds until they crackle. Add 2 Tsp urad dal and 2 tsp cumin seeds with it and stir on a low flame until it becomes golden. After that, add a dried chili, some curry leaves, and a little asafoetida (hing), and stir until the leaves become crispy. Add the mixture to the first coconut mixture that you’ve made before. Enjoy your coconut chutney.

The Coriander chutney is one of most popular Indian chutneys which is also addressed as dhania chutney in India. It gives a compliment to every Indian snack, especially with samosa and Kachori.

Ingredients needed for this

Coriander leaves, chopped green chilies, chopped ginger, roasted cumin powder, lemon juice, salt.

Recipe

take 100 grams of coriander leaves, 4 green chilies, and 2 teaspoons of ginger and blend them smooth in a blender. Open the blender midway and add  2 teaspoons lemon juice, 1 tsp cumin powder, and salt as taste. You can add some chat masala to lift the taste. Add a little water and again grind it smooth and your coriander chutney is ready.

3. Onion Chutney

One of the most loved Indian chutney that belongs to South India. You can have this chutney with Idli, Dosa, etc. You can also have this if you don’t have coconut chutney. Though the tastes are different, you will love it too.

Ingredients needed for this

Chana dal, Urad dal, Kashmiri red chilies, Onion, ginger, tamarind, mustard seeds, curry leaves, asafoetida, and salt per taste.

Recipe

Heat some oil in a pan, and add chana dal (2 tsp), urad dal (1 tsp), and Kashmiri red chilies ( 4-5) with it. Remember, the chilies should be broken and the seeds should be removed. Stir them until dals get golden. Add onion ( 2 cups) and 1 teaspoon of chopped ginger. Stir them until the onion becomes lightly golden. After onions change their color, let it cool. After that, put the mixture into the grinder and add 1/2 tsp tamarind, salt ( as per need), and 2 cup water ( add more if needed) with that. Grind the mixture until it gives a smooth texture. Again heat the oil in a pan and add 1 tsp mustard seeds, asafoetida, and 6-7 curry leaves within that.

Make the curry leaves crisp and add the previous mixture from the grinder within that. Mix it thoroughly and add some water ( as per need) with that. Stir until it mixes well. Switch off the oven and let it cool. Your onion chutney is ready to serve.

4. Pomegranate Chutney

Pomegranate chutney, also known as anardana chutney is a spicy chutney from India which is used to serve different types of pakora and fries. It is also used as a side dish for stuffed parathas and tandoori dishes.

Ingredients needed for this

Dry pomegranate seeds, onions, coriander leaves, mint leaves, cumin powder, green chilies, lemon juice, sugar, salt, chat masala.

Recipe

take 6-8 teaspoon dry pomegranate seeds and wash them with fresh water. Add the seeds, 2 medium onions, 1 cup chopped coriander leaves, 2/4 cup mint leaves, 1 teaspoon cumin powder, 2 chopped green chilies, A squish of lemon juice, 1 teaspoon sugar, 1 teaspoon chat masala, salt as per taste, and some water in a grinder, and grind it until it gives a smooth texture. It is ready to be relished.

5. Green garlic chutney

This is also known as hara lasun chutney and it is one of the most popular chutneys in India. It can complement your evening snacks and go best with kabab items.

Ingredients needed for this

Chopped garlic buds ( hara lasun), chopped coriander leaves ( dhania), green chilies,  chat masala, lemon juice, roasted cumin powder, salt as needed.

Recipe

Add 2 cup chopped garlic buds ( hara lasun), 1 cup chopped coriander leaves ( dhania), 2-4 green chilies, 2 teaspoon chat masala, 2 teaspoon lemon juice, 1 teaspoon roasted cumin powder, salt, and some water in a grinder and grind it until it gives a smooth texture. serve it with your evening snacks.

6. Raw mango chutney

This chutney is usually used to complement the main course, especially dal. Many people consider this as a side dish with roti.

Ingredients needed for this

Unripe mangoes, fresh coconut, green chilies, salt as taste.

Recipe

Peel two unripe mangoes and cut them into small pieces. Add it into the grinder with 1 cup fresh coconut, 2 green chilies, salt as per taste, and grind well until it gives a smooth texture.
